In my years of studying martial arts it almost always comes
back to having a clear mind (Mushin-
"Mind like water" or "no mind"). After seeing countless number of people
performing kata (prearranged movements) the difference between someone
practicing with mushin
is the efficiency of movement.

Milton Erickson said " A hypnotic subject
always shows a tremendous economy of
movement". When practicing kata to be in the moment is one of the things I
think most martial artist miss. A Quote from The Peaceful Warrior "Where
are you, Dan?" "Here." "What Time is it?"
"Now." "Who are You?" "This Moment." says it all.

Learning to get to this place of mushin "being in the moment" when training in any sport will increase overall performance.
